Amylenum nitrosum, commonly known as Amyl Nitrite, is a powerful vasoactive medicine prepared from Nitrite of Amyl (C₅H₁₁NO₂) by dilution in alcohol. It is useful in managing rapid and widespread dilation of arterioles and capillaries, leading to flushing, heat, and pulsations—particularly in the head and chest. It is especially valuable in addressing climacteric complaints, such as flushes of heat, palpitations, and sudden sweats, as well as in acute cardiovascular or neurological episodes, including epileptic convulsions, hiccough, and seasickness. Amylenum nitrosum acts quickly, offering rapid relief from vascular and nervous congestion, and is marked by symptoms of throbbing, surging, constriction, and restlessness. Common Name English: Amyl Nitrite SBL’s Amylenum nitrosum can be helpful in the following conditions: Climacteric Flushings and Vascular Surges Especially suited for flushes of heat at the menopausal (climacteric) period, often accompanied by anxiety, palpitations, and profuse sweating. Heat and redness surge over the face and head, followed by cold clammy skin or sweating, reflecting superficial arterial hyperemia. Aids in throbbing sensations throughout the entire body, particularly during or after influenza or febrile illness. Cardiac Distress and Precordial Anxiety Amylenum nitrosum is indicated in tumultuous, fluttering heart action, even from slight excitement, with constriction and pressure around the heart. Helps in palpitations with precordial anxiety, particularly during climacteric episodes, or after emotional disturbances. Useful in dilated superficial vessels, including veins of the hands and visible arterial throbbing.
