While these icons ruled the fashion world, some fashionable Indian women, were also acknowledged by the world renowned fashion magazines, for their exceptional style.

Let’s have a look at the most fashionable Indian women throughout history. We looked back to three such figures, whose influence on fashion bounded no limits! Their style and fashion sense are still remembered today and will always be decades after.

Maharani Gayatri Devi, Rajmata of Jaipur was celebrated for her classical beauty and her impeccable sense of style in “The Ten Most Beautiful Women of the World” by Vogue Magazine. She ran for Parliament in 1962 and won the constituency in the world’s largest landslide. Besides having great affluence, she was also a source of inspiration to many fashionistas across the country and also globally.

Rani Sita Devi of Kapurthala was called a “Secular Goddess” by Vogue, when she was merely 19 years old and befittingly considered India’s most glamourous royals of all times. She was also named amongst the five best dressed women on earth by the world’s top-most fashion magazines. The Maharani was popular for her fine sartorial choices, and served as the muse of several international photographers.

Madhubala is a timeless Indian beauty who ruled Indian cinema in the 1950’s. Raised as Mumtaz, she created furore in Bollywood as Madhubala and was known for her enchanting sense of fashion and charm. Madhubala sported demure sarees and mid length dresses with aplomb. Madhubala as well as her anarkali dress in the song “Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya” are remembered even today. She is often compared to her western counterpart Marilyn Monroe, who was equally beautiful and similar wavy short tresses.
